I have the problem of acid reflux, and i want to try to get it back on track. The doctor prescribed 40 mg of esomeprazole and 20 mg of protonix for reflux. He prescribed the protonix 20 mg. I am not sure how to give it to me. I have been told that the tablets will take up to 1-2 days to work. Can i take this for reflux? If not, how should i take it? Thanks. Ann

I think that's a good point. Taking the 40 mg for reflux is probably not the right way to go, especially because there is no other treatment for reflux than the 40 mg. I know that 20 mg of protonix for reflux may not be enough, but there is a drug that you can get at the pharmacy that can help you to get a lot of the symptoms you have. It's called the Nexium (esomeprazole) and it's an oral medication that works in a similar way to Nexium, and it has a much lower risk of side effects. It's usually taken 1-2 hours before you need to take it, and then every 24 hours or so you take it for a week or so. If you can't take it for 2 weeks, your doctor may prescribe Nexium (esomeprazole) to try to help you feel better. The 40 mg dose is probably enough for most people, and you should only take it as prescribed. The 20 mg dose is probably enough for most people. But the 20 mg dose may not work for most people. In the case that you are taking 20 mg of protonix, and the 40 mg is taking longer than usual to work, then Nexium will probably not help you. In the case that you are taking 20 mg of protonix, and the 40 mg is taking longer than usual, then Nexium will probably not help you.
